Contrary to popular belief, the famed Running of the Bulls in Pamplona has evolved into nothing more than a drunken spectacle with the true origination forgotten and silly.

Believe me, if you want to test your courage in front of the bulls there are plenty of places to do it. In particular, on August 15th there are more than 50 villages in and around Madrid who allow full grown 5 year old bulls to run through the streets, and you won’t have to worry about tripping over some drunken Swede or some paralytic American lying in the gutter.

And if the spectacle of 25,000 well dressed spectators in the Las Ventas bull ring in Madrid offends your natural sentiments why not go to an AUTHENTIC “bullfight” where the crowd forms the visual wall for the toro and the matador must keep the bull totally occupied. One of many real places is Peza, near Granada.

OR visit the medieval town of Chinchon, famed for it’s Anisette and jump into the ring and have a go yourself.

OF COURSE the matador doesn’t always win, and is not always carried out triumphant but is often wheeled out on a stretcher.
